Recently we have began reviewing cases for the 30gb iPod Photo. Unlike the other iPods, the 30gb iPod Photo is fairly new so most companies are still comming out with their version of a case for it. But luckily for us our friends over at Boxwave are right on top of it with their FlexiSkin fitted to the 30gb Photo!

Boxwave has supplied us with quite a few products for review and they have always been of great craftsmanship and quality. This product does not differ from their past expertise. Coming in a clear blister pack, the first presentation is very appealing. The FlexiSkin is made of clear flexible plastic and is form fitted to the 30gb iPod. The plastic is the same type of flexible plastic found on the Proporta and JavoEdge silicone cases but unlike those cases, this silicone case comes in a variety of colors including white, blue, and pink (our sample was white).

The fit of the Boxwave is amazing. It lines up perfectly with the click wheel, screen, and sync port, plus on the top it is open in the center to allow access to the headphone, power, and hold button.

To insert the iPod into the case, you slide it in from the top, this is different from the usual silicone case procedure where you have to put the device in through the screen opening. This is a good and bad thing in that it is easy to put in compared to other silicone cases (like the javoedge), but it does make it so the top is open.

On the back of the case you will find a screw on belt clip post that is made of metal and hard plastic. The belt clip that comes with the case is also clear so it blends in with the case. Using the belt clip is simple and it seems to stay connected to the case very well even over extended periods of time. Also included is a small lanyard that you can use if you like to use lanyards.

In use the FlexiSkin works great and looks good. It adds barely any bulk to the iPod, yet it adds scratch and some bump protection. Still it has the problem that most other silicone cases have and that is that it like to attract dust. Luckily you can wash the case easily and it turns back good as new. One thing I would like to see is a built in screen protector (as seen in the Vaja Leather Cases). This would add good screen protection without the need to buy a screen protector.

Overall I really like the FlexiSkin. It provides good protection in a low bulk case plus comes in a variety of colors!

Pros:

  • Low Bulk
  • Good Protection
  • Easy to put in the case

Cons:

  • No top protection
  • Can attract dust

Thanks to Boxwave for the Review Sample!
