www.SendStation.com Price: Dependent on Version
SendStation PocketDocks are small devices that fit on the bottom of your iPod plugging into the sync port. The PocketDocks then give you the ability to use a universal Firewire or USB cable to sync your iPod with your PC. Some also give a line out port that you can use to connect to your stereo. The PocketDocks come in varied setups depending on what you need. The four versions are as follows:
The Firewire and USB + Firewire (Combo) versions come in a simple small box. With the Line Out versions, you get a very nice looking box with the two cables plus a window so you can see the dock from outside the box. All of the PocketDocks and their components are made to blend in with the iPod. It is amazing how good looking the components are. Everything is white, and the cables have the same, iPod type cable look. Even the box that the line out versions come in is very nice looking and super good quality. SendStation has put alot of work into its image and it really shows, everything comes off amazingly nice and makes you feel like you bought a good quality product, which once you open the box, you will see that you have. Each Pocket Dock is a different size as depending on the ports it has, it is smaller or bigger in dimensions. All the PocketDocks support the iPod 3rd Generation, 4th Generation, and Photo iPods. They also support the iPod mini but are not color matched to the mini like to the white standard iPods. The first Pocket Dock we will look at is the Firewire only version. This version retails for USD $18.95 and comes in a simple card board box that has flaps on either end. This Firewire only version is the smallest Pocket Dock in physical dimensions and is also the only one to feature two side buttons that you squeeze to release the dock from the iPod. This Pocket Dock will also let you use accessories for the 1st and 2nd Generation iPods.
The next Pocket Dock is the Firewire + USB Combo Pocket Dock (Retail USD $22.95). This Pocket Dock combines a USB and Firewire port so it can work with accessories for the 1st and 2nd Generation iPods, and at the same time work to sync with a computer via USB or Firewire. This Pocket Dock also comes in a small card board box with flaps on either side.
Next up is the USB and Line Out Combo Pocket Dock (Retail USD $29.95). This Pocket Dock features the USB Sync plus a line out port like found on the official iPod Desk Dock. This Pocket Dock comes in a very nice box with a small window in the front so you can see the Pocket Dock from the outside. The line out feeds from the non-amplified source on the iPod so it is clearer and does not get effected by the volume control on the iPod itself. Also included in this pack is a key ring adapter which you can plug the Pocket Dock into to carry on your key ring. This is a nice feature for bringing the Pocket Dock with you, plus it protects the pins on the dock from damage. As an addition to this pack, you also receive a 3.5mm (headphone plug) to Stereo RCA cable and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. These allow you to plug your iPod into your stereo right out of the box! Both cables are also matched to the iPod style so they look great with your iPod setup.
Finally is the Firewire and Line Out Combo Pocket Dock (Retail USD $29.95). This Pocket Dock features the Firewire Sync plus a line out port like found on the official iPod Desk Dock. This dock also works with 1st and 2nd Generation iPod accessories.
All of the PocketDocks except for the Firewire Only version disconnect and connect by just pushing or pulling them into the sync connector on the bottom of the iPod (the Firewire Only version has two side buttons that you squeeze to release it from the sync port). On each Pocket Dock there is a gray spot that is used to tell up from down, the gray spot should be facing up. I really like the PocketDocks and SendStation overall. They have great quality products and definitely spend a lot of time on their image. Their product quality and setup almost surpasses Apple itself for the way that they have designed their products (of course you can not help but love their Mascot which is the little orange guy). Each and every Pocket Dock performed perfectly and had no problems syncing or sending audio to my stereo. The speed through the Pocket Dock sync is really the same as using the official iPod cables. Overall these are great products for using your iPod with your stereo or syncing with multiple computers. They allow you to use a cheap standard Firewire or USB cable to sync your iPod with your computer without bringing along the big standard iPod cable. All with great style and no problems with craftsmanship or usage. Overall this is just a great product for any iPod user. Pros:
