OtterBox - Defender Series for iPhone 4
OtterBox has grown into the case to have for anyone that wants to ensure their device is protected no matter the conditions it is subjected to. When we heard months ago that they had a new design up their sleeve we were estatic to get our hands on a sample to check out. Well today is the day...the OtterBox Reflex series is here!
The reflex series comes packaged nicely in the normal OtterBox looking box. It presents well as a high quality product.
Similar to other OtterBox designs, the reflex is made out of a combination of hard and soft plastics. The difference this time is that the two are combined into one solid shell case vs. Being two distinct parts like on other series like the Defender and Commuter. The goal of this combination is to provide the benefits of both, shock protection from the more flexible plastic and pure strength and durability from the hard plastic. The case itself is split into a top and bottom half that snap together to hug the iPhone 4 very well.
In use the Relex series fits well and gives access to all the parts of the iPhone. It seems to live up to it's claims of durability and the iPhone felt very safe in the reflex case. There was a bit more play in the fit than I am used to with other OtterBox designs, but it is very minor. My only complaint would be that the hard plastic felt a bit shiny and cheaper at times than I am used to with OtterBox. Would have been nice if it had a bit more texture to it. Besides that the case was excellent to use and really had a nice aesthetic look to it with the combination of plastics.
Overall the Reflex lives up to the OtterBox brand and claim to fame of rugged protection. The design is truly innovative in a market that does not always think outside the box. My only negative was a slight bit of play in the fit and the hard shiny plastic not feeling as "expensive" as I usually expect from OtterBox.
