Lately we have been reviewing many cases for the X50 series and it is amazing all the styles and types that have come onto the market in the last few months. Today I am proud to review a new style case that in my mind is unique from other standard leather or metal cases. The company, Boxwave, the case, their new Active Case for the X50 Series.

Boxwave has supplied us with quite a few products for review and they have always been of great craftsmanship and quality. This product does not differ from their past expertise. Coming in a clear blister pack, the first presentation is very appealing. The Active Case is made of clear plastic and is form fitted to the X50. It is a clam shell opening case with a double hinge at the top that lets the front half folder flat to the back. All the main cutouts are there (power button, dpad w/buttons, side wireless buttons, headphones, sync port) plus the whole case is crystal clear so you can see the screen through the case. I really find this a great feature as you can look up your contacts, appointments, or other info without even opening the case.

To insert the Dell into the case, you open the case and then slide it in from the top. There are two arms that come out and hug the unit so that it stays in place. This is very similar to a metal case. To keep the case closed, the case snaps open and closed. It can sometimes be a little hard to open as the snaps are very strong.

On the back of the case you will find a screw on belt clip post that is made of metal. The belt clip that comes with the case is also smoked clear so it blends in with the case. Also on the back is the Boxwave logo. Using the belt clip is simple and it seems to stay connected to the case very well even over extended periods of time.

In use the Active Case works great and looks good. It adds barely any bulk to the X50, yet it adds a lot of protection with its hard shell. Unlike silicone cases, it provides strong protection from bumps and falls and can really protect the screen.

Overall I really like the Active Case. It provides great protection in a low bulk case and lets you use the X50 with the case closed.

Pros:

  • Low Bulk
  • Good Protection
  • Can use X50 in the case with the case closed
  • Totally clear

Cons:

  • Sometimes hard to open

Thanks to Boxwave for the Review Sample!
