JavoEdge X50v Case The Javo Skin case comes in a very nicely made package. It is a retail blister pack that separates into two pieces easily to take the case out. In the pack you get the case itself, the belt clip, and a short lanyard. The Javo Skin is made to fit your PDA perfectly and it does just that. JavoEdge has instructions on their site on how to put the PDA in the case, and the way they show seems to work the best. You simply slip the bottom of the PDA into the case, then pull the top and sides around your PDA. The plastic material is stretchable so it can be stretched to put it on your PDA, but it retains its shape so it will instantly return to its normal size and layout when you get it on.
The Javo Skin has cutouts for the lock button, the lanyard loop, the mic and wireless light, the screen, the reset button on the back, the headphone jack, the CF and SD card slots, the stylus silo, and the bottom connector. The rest of the buttons like the D-Pad with surrounding hard buttons, wireless and record buttons, and power button are not cut out, they are indented into the case though so that they are easy to push. The IR port is also just indented so it is covered by the case, but it does not seem to effect the performance of the IR range. All the cutouts line up perfectly, and one nice feature is that the stylus cutout goes down the back aways so it is still easy to get the stylus out.
The fit of the case around the screen is amazing. It lines up perfectly and looks great. It also tapers down to the screen on the top and bottom. On the back there is a round metal disk embedded into the case for the belt clip. To use the belt clip you screw on a metal post, then you can slide on the belt clip. The belt clip also swivels a full 360 degrees.
The material on the case is almost like a soft rubber, yet it retains its shape perfectly and is soft. It is not perfectly clear, but still clear in color. About the only thing that is annoying about this case is it does attract dust. It is easy to wipe off, but the case gets almost static charged so the dust sticks to it. Javo Skin has said they are working on making a coating that will help prevent this. The lanyard included is about a foot long and works to put around your neck or around your hand. It works great with the loop on the X50 series. Many will probably wonder if this case works with the X50 with extended battery. I tried it out and it did work surprisingly well. It was not deformed on the front and it still fit around the front cutouts and buttons fine. On the side with the lock button though, it pulled the holes out of alignment a bit so it did not fit as perfect. Also the belt clip disk is at the top of the case so with the extended battery on, it was a bit flimsy as it was not sitting directly on the PDA. Overall this is a great case to provide moderate protection for your PDA, but still make it feel like you do not even have a case on the unit. I can see that it would provide good corner protection from drops and falls as the material is very absorbent of shock. Do note that it does not provide any screen protection, but for some it is perfect as there is no extra flap or cover you have to remove to use your PDA. Thanks to JavoEdge for the Review Sample! Note that I used pictures from JavoEdge's Site as they showed the details of the case much better than what I could get with my camera and the lighting that I have. Note 2: This case is identical to the Proporta Silicone Case also reviewed on our site. Please look at the Proporta Review for more pictures also!
