Boxwave PSP ActionGrip

Boxwave PSP ActionGrip
www.Boxwave.com
Price: $9.95

Looking at something besides PSP Cases for awhile, we received a review sample of Boxwave's ActionGrip for the Sony PSP.

Coming in a simple blister pack, there really are no retail packaging marks on the packaging that the ActionGrip comes in. This is ok though as Boxwave products are sold through their website only and are not meant to be on a store's shelf. Most of their products either come in a simple white box or a all white blister pack (like the ActionGrip), so a simple blister pack for the ActionGrip is really no issue and is something to be expected.

Upon first looking at the ActionGrip I noticed that it is very similar to the Proporta PSP Recharge Grip. The main two differences are that for one, the Boxwave ActionGrip does not offer the charging features, and two, the coating on the ActionGrip has a more velvet feel and is no slip unlike the standard plastic of the Proporta Recharge Grip. You can tell these two products were made by the same design though as they feature the same slider feature, and the Boxwave still has a small hole on the left grip (where the charge cable comes out on the Proporta Version). Boxwave also places a CE certification sticker over the area where the hole for the adapter to plug in is on the Proporta Version.

The design of the ActionGrip is simple yet very usable. In the center the grip slides together and locks or closes and locks. This makes it so it is more portable when you want to take it along with you. To attach to the PSP, simply extend the grip out and clip your PSP into the ActionGrip. There are two clips on the top and two on the bottom that hold the PSP in place. This is where there is one thing that Boxwave could improve on, they should put some kind of protective material on the clips as they could easily scratch the PSP with repeated use..

On the grip itself it is contoured to the back of the PSP so the fit is very tight and good. There also is an indent to allow easy access to the headphone jack.

Once in the grip, it is much easier (at least for me) to use the PSP as you can move your grasp on the PSP down so that you can get at the thumb pad and buttons easier. It is very nice if you have bigger hands (like me) as well. I also really liked the finish on the Boxwave version over the Proporta version as it is a more velvety feel that is nicer in your hand and is not so slippery.

Overall the ActionGrip is a very simple device that is made to make it easier to use your PSP. It does that and it does it well with a good feel. The only odd thing is that Boxwave decided to leave out the charge function that the Proporta Grip has for just a few dollars more..

Pros:

  • Shrinks in size when not in use
  • Neat feel
  • Great fit onto PSP

Cons:

  • No Charge function like Proporta Version
  • Clips could scratch PSP

Thanks to Boxwave for the Review Sample!
